Breach notices are public records published by state attorneys general and consumer-protection agencies, the HHS Office for Civil Rights (HIPAA breaches of 500 or more people) and the SEC (Form 8-K Item 1.05 cybersecurity filings by public companies). We show what the agency published; we don't add to or grade it. Each state has its own reporting threshold, so a company may appear in one state's list and not another's. Many states don't publish their notices at all. Not finding a company here does not mean it never had a breach.

Settlements are added by hand from each settlement's official, court-approved website, and every date is copied from that site. We re-check the official sites regularly. If we can't confirm a date, we say it's unknown instead of guessing.
